At the Helm of North Creek Rafting

Suave, Maddy, Nate and I taking a break while running the Gorge in the early days of North Creek Rafting. Suave and Maddy's Wedstival is in Ithaca this weekend.
I'm at the helm of North Creek Rafting Company. Our skilled guides are making it possible. I've got two weeks left of school. Nate drove to Idaho with a raft and the equipment needed to run the Middle Fork of the Salmon River for a week. The Middle Fork is 112 miles in length.

Folks like John M. from Nanuet, NY make my behind-the-scenes role seem immense.

"If you are looking for a great experience on a white water rafting trip, look no further. Our family of 4 enjoyed a tremendous day of rafting the Hudson. Their equipment is top notch. The rafts, wet suits, helmets were all in pristine shape. What really makes the difference though, is the staff. The management and guides of North Creek are outstanding. Joe, Mark and Becky were tremendous hosts. It's clear that they want you to have fun and encourage you to do so. It's true that there are some serious parts of the river, and those were managed very professionally. On the other sections, it was all about enjoying the beautiful scenery and the river. We'll be back again."

ESTHER BROWN PELTON

ESTHER BROWN PELTON

We're proud to announce the addition of a furry friend to our clan. Esther Brown Pelton was born in Newcomb, NY on February 8, 2014. Dave and Ruth Olbert of Cloud-Splitter Outfitters www.cloudsplitteroutfitters.com/ in Newcomb raised "Trouble" until we picked her up at 10 weeks old and named her Esther Brown. We adopted her on April 21.She's a mix between a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and a Spinone Italiano. Esther is smart, affectionate, observant, and quite vocal. She changes from Gremlin to Gizmo several times per day. Her feet are as webbed as can be. She'll definitely follow in Ellie's paw strokes. Ellie and Esther were both born along the Hudson River.

Grandma Cackling Through Riffles and Rapids

A dear friend of mine emailed last Tuesday (4/8) to say North Creek Rafting Company made the front page of the Times Union newspaper out of Albany, New York. The article included a photo of me guiding my Grandma down the Hudson River Gorge for Grandma's 82nd birthday (see photo above). Grandma hooted and hollered the whole trip through all riffles and rapids. I can hear Grandma cackling now from the center of the raft.

Here's a link to an article by Brian Nearing of the Times Union:

We're ready to ride our favorite kind of white water!

At North Creek Rafting Company (NCRC) we're excited to get on the river. The temperatures are rising, the rain is falling and the abundant white water we've skied on all winter is melting to make our favorite kind of white water

Looking at the Glen (below), located south of us in Warrensburg, it's easy to imagine an impressive spring with BIG WATER.

On Saturday March 29th, North Creek Rafting Company spent the day refreshing our wilderness CPR and first aid skills with instructors Rick Morse, Gretchen Stark and Steve Ovitt. Rick, Gretchen and Steve have worked as responders in the wilderness for many, many years. Each of them brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the refresher course. All guides who work at NCRC attended this awesome class (except the guides with updated medical training who worked on ski patrol all winter). The final exam involved a hike along North Creek on the Carol A Thomas Walking Trail. On the walk through the snow, each participant took turns acting out the role of an injured person as well as the person responsible for applying CPR and first aid.
